Durham Big ride is expanding this year and will get 'dirty' in the process. The expansion comes in the form of an event in the heart of Hamsterley Forest, near Bishop Auckland, on Sunday 27 June which will have the same family feel as the very successful Durham Big Rides. "We are always listening to feedback and to what our Durham Big Riders are saying to us. People wanted a fun day out in the great forest at Hamsterley and we are only too happy to oblige," said Colin Wilkes one of the organisers. After meeting with Alex MacLennan from the Forestry Commission we found someone who was fully behind the event and is a keen as anyone to get more people down to use the paths and trails the forest has to offer. "We are delighted to be hosting this event, which is aimed at fun rather than competition," said Alex. "A lot of work has gone into developing the cycle facilities amidst some of the best scenery in the Durham countryside, which is aimed at all levels of cyclists." Colin would like to encourage interested riders to book early as there is limited space available for the first event. He added: "We have a limit of 250 riders, which may sound a lot but the event will also see the launch of a new route in the forest and the more experienced and regular riders will want to be one of the first to try it out." A 'full–house' is expected for the event so to make sure of your place the organisers are advising anyone interested to register through the Durham Big Ride website: www.durhambigride.co.uk and follow the links to the Durham Dirty Big Ride.
